The Planning Department combines the functions of current and advance planning as well as coordination with Economic Development, Public Works, Building & Safety, Police and Fire to manage the orderly growth and development of the community as set forth in the City of Murrieta’s General Plan and Development Code. The Planning Department is responsible for the City’s physical planning, which includes development review, analysis and compliance, environmental review, long range planning, and development policies. Title 16 (Development Code) of the Murrieta Municipal Code specifies the land use regulations for the City. Each property is located within a specific zoning district, which determines the allowable land use and applicable development standards. The development standards regulate building characteristics such as setbacks, building height, etc.
To contact Planning staff, please visit City Hall at One Town Square (24601 Jefferson Avenue) or call (951) 461-6061. Staff is available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Planning Department also serves as support and technical staff for the Planning Commission and the Historic Preservation Ad-Hoc Committee.
