National Night Out 2012
The Murrieta Police Department would like to extend an open invitation to the citizens of the City of Murrieta to participate in the 29th Annual National Night Out event at Town Square Park in the Murrieta Civic Center (behind City Hall) on August 7, 2012 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. There is absolutely no charge to attend this event.
This family event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relationships and to send a firm message to criminals, letting them know that our community is organized and will FIGHT BACK!
Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2011. Locally, we had several hundred attend last year's event in Murrieta and this year we are anticipating the event to grow in attendance.
In Murrieta, the police department event is collaborating directly with our local Target stores in coordinating the event. Target is a national corporate sponsor and coordinator for the event. Our two Murrieta Target stores, as well as stores from Temecula and Hemet will be sponsoring a barbeque with FREE hot dogs & drinks. Juice-It-Up from Hemet will be handing out FREE smoothie samples. The Murrieta Buffalo Wild Wings has committed to handing out food samples.
Target Stores will also have some great giveaways sponsored by local businesses and will be hosting a raffle to include I-pod shuffles, school ready backpacks, gift certificates from the Hemet Juice-It-Up, the Murrieta Buffalo Wild Wings, the Murrieta Chick-Fil-A, Maxx Pizza (formerly Bob's Pizza), Chili's (Murrieta & Hemet) and Mulligan's Family Fun Center to name a few.
The Murrieta Police Department will have several static displays and information available for public view including the department’s SWAT truck and equipment, the DUI Trailer, Off-Road Enforcement Motorcycles and the Police/Fire Mobile Command Post vehicle. There will be several K-9 and Bloodhound demonstrations for the public to view.
A "kid zone" will also be in the park. Children's activities include a jolly jump, face painting and an obstacle course sponsored by the US Marine Corps. Other child safety organizations and safety related businesses have committed to attending the event with static displays and FREE safety information. Child fingerprinting will be conducted by the Temecula Masonic Lodge and gun safety information will be provided by The Shootist gun store.
Other public safety departments and organizations including the Murrieta Fire Department, Code Enforcement, U.S Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Mercy Air Ambulance, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Police Volunteer Program, Safe Alternatives for Everyone (SAFE), will have static displays and personnel will be on hand to answer questions from the public.
The public is invited to come and picnic in the park with lawn chairs and pop-up style shades. Again, the event is completely FREE to attend.
