The Murrieta Fire Department responded to 24850 Hancock Avenue to an Apartment Building that was reported to be on fire at 6:45 am this morning. The first crew arrived and found smoke and fire coming from three windows of a downstairs apartment. Crews stopped the fires progress and reported knockdown twelve minutes after they arrived.

Upon searching the scene for victims, an unidentified person was located inside the apartment and found to be deceased. Prior to the arrival of crews, a resident of the apartment complex pulled a pediatric victim from the apartment. That patient was treated by Firefighter-Paramedics at the scene and transported to the local hospital.

One Firefighter sustained injuries as a result of the fire and is expected to recover. Firefighters contained the fire to the unit were it began and remained on scene to check for nearby extension into other apartment units.

Fire Investigators are working with detectives from the Murrieta Police Department on the investigation.
