FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIBRARY COMPUTERS AVAILABLE FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
MURRIETA, CA - Thanks to the Rotary Club of Murrieta, the Murrieta Public Library has a dedicated computer station designed specifically to meet the needs of those who are visually impaired. The computer station can be raised or lowered and includes a special keyboard and specialized Zoom Text software. The PC is available on a first come, first served basis for anyone who wishes to access the Internet and/or use the Microsoft Office 2007 software.
In addition to the one dedicated PC, several others in the Library's Computer Lab now have large screen monitors and are also loaded with the Zoom Text software. While the Lab computers can be used by any adult library user, they can also be reserved if needed. Rotarian and local optometrist Dr. David Dortch took the lead in utilizing Rotary funds for the project and Mr. Robert Knepp of the Rotary Club of Hemet acquired the Zoom Text software and specialized keyboards. According to Loretta McKinney, Director of Library Services, "The Murrieta Public Library is the perfect place to offer this service to the community since we offer daytime, evening and Saturday hours. Collaborating with the Rotary is a win-win situation with the sight impaired community benefitting directly from the Rotary"s generosity.”
Use of the computer workstation is free and open to the public. The Murrieta Public Library is located at Eight Town Square (Adams Avenue and Kalmia Street). For more information about this service, call (951) 304-BOOK (2665) or visit the Library’s web site at www.murrieta.org/services/library. |
