Swim Lessons

The City of Murrieta's Aquatics program offers a variety of Swim Lesson classes through the Red Cross Water Safety Program. All classes are held at the California Oaks Sports Park Pool between May and September and are taught by Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors.

Our instructors are trained to make learning fun in a safe environment while providing a balanced program that teaches swimming skills and water safety to everyone from infancy to adulthood. Click on the links below for more information on the various levels or scroll down the page.

General Information

Instructors follow a plan that details the skills to be introduced at each level along with performance expectations. Progress of participants is continuously monitored and evaluated and skills are checked off as they are achieved.

At the end of the session, achievement cards are presented to children who have not completed all skills. The cards indicate which skills have been achieved and which skills need more work.

How can you help as a parent?

You play an essential role in your child’s aquatic experience. Your enthusiasm and guidance can make your child’s swim lessons fun and rewarding.

Support your child by praising his or her effort in the pool.
Bring a healthy snack and drink for your child for after the lesson to replace fluids and energy.
Understand that children develop swimming skills at different rates. Remember, many children need to repeat a level multiple times to complete all of the skills.
Ask the instructor which skills your child should review, and then make practicing at home or the pool fun!

How can you build on your child’s swimming experience?

Give your child plenty of opportunities to develop strength, practice skills and increase his or her comfort level in the water by taking him or her to a local or family pool.

Stay interested in your child’s progress. Ask your child to show you a skill learned in swim lessons and incorporate the skill into a game to play in the pool.

Remember: It is not important how quickly they move through a level, but that they acquire each skill.

Please read the registration information and course descriptions below carefully.  Every effort should be made to enroll your child into the appropriate class based on their skill level.  If enrollment is made into a class that is not at the child's ability the Aquatic Office can not guarantee that space in another class will be available.

FREE SWIM LEVEL ASSESSMENT

If you are unsure of your childs skill level; we recommend taking the free swim level assessment June 1st and July 6th 2013 from 12p-1p, or talk to the friendly aquatic staff at the Pool.
