"This is a book about some of the things I have loved most in life: my husband, Paul Child, la belle France; and the many pleasures of cooking and eating," writes Julia Child in her memoir. My Life in France was published in 2006 and is a joint effort between Julia Child and her grandnephew, Alex Prud'homme. Most of the book is in Julia Child"s own words, but after her death in 2004 the book was completed by Alex Prud’homme. This book is not just a biography but a beautiful love story. The "loves” being Julia’s longtime husband Paul Child as well as France and French cooking.
Although most everyone knows of Julia Child’s cooking career and her television career, many people do not know much about her life before her culinary fame. Ms. Child grew up in Pasadena, California with no idea she would one day change the way women chefs were viewed and would revamp the way that Americans cook. This book chronicles Julia Child’s life from her youth in the United States, to her work during the war, to her marriage to Paul Child, to her famous cooking career. The book is a labor of love which shows Julia Child as a beautiful person who had an extraordinary life. Included in the text are many exquisite black and white photos taken by Paul Child. Anyone who enjoys cooking will fancy this gem of a book. Bon appetite! |
