On Friday July 3, 2009 the Murrieta Police Department conducted a combination sobriety/driver's license checkpoint in the City of Murrieta. The checkpoint was set up to screen traffic northbound Margarita Road south of Fordham.
The checkpoint was funded by the “Avoid the 30 grant” which was awarded by the State of California, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, Office of Traffic Safety (O.T.S.).
The checkpoint began operations at 7:15 p.m. and ended at 1:15 am. A total of 1,280 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 825 of these vehicles were screened. Twenty-one of the drivers screened were pulled into a secondary area.
Eleven drivers were arrested for a variety of charges including driving on a suspended license/unlicensed driver, driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, drug charges, felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor warrants. A total of ten vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint as a result of the arrests. |
