Incident Summary

On 7/4/2009 at 1344 hours Officers from the Murrieta Police Department responded to the area of I-215 and Los Alamos Road reference a motorist following his stolen truck taken from his home in Menifee hours earlier.  Murrieta Officers went on scene and contacted the auto theft victim near Whitewood Road and Alta Murrieta.  The victim lost sight of his truck in the area minutes earlier.  Murrieta Officers set up a perimeter covering a 1 square mile area.  Inside the perimeter Officers began looking for the vehicle.  At 1411 hours, a Murrieta Sergeant located the truck partially backed into a residence on Calle Casa Blanca, inside the perimeter.  The driver of the truck, later identified as Scott Sandman (age 46), saw the Sergeant and fled into the neighborhood.  A short foot pursuit ensued and ultimately a smaller perimeter was set up covering approximately 24 homes off of Calle Casa Blanca.  The Riverside Sheriff's Department Air Unit and a Murrieta K9 responded to the area to assist with the search.  At 1452 hours, Scott Sandman was taken into custody inside the perimeter.  His companion, a female later identified as Amanda Stanley (age 18) was also taken into custody near the area the stolen truck was parked.  Stanley was in possession of methamphetamine at the time of her arrest.  Further investigation revealed the stolen truck and Ms. Stanley were seen leaving the scene of a residential burglary in Menifee hours earlier.  In addition, property from the Menifee residential burglary was located near the stolen truck by Murrieta Officers.  Deputies from the Menifee station and Murrieta Officers are working together to handle the burglary and the stolen vehicle cases.  Both Sandman and Staley were booked at the Southwest Detention Center for the listed charges.
