On July 8, 2009 at 2202 hours, Officers from the Murrieta Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call on the 24500 block of Calle San Vicente. An officer arrived and observed several subjects fleeing the area. Three subjects were detained, with one of the three injuring himself from scaling a fence and falling about 20 feet into a water basin.
An investigation revealed Matthew Riddle and David Cervantes walked past the victim’s residence toward a field and returned moments later. Riddle and Cervantes confronted witnesses in the driveway, alleging they stole a bicycle that was located in the garage. An argument ensued, and Riddle and Cervantes assaulted the victim in the garage. During the assault, two to three more subjects arrived and assisted in assaulting the victim and a witness.
It was later learned that an outstanding suspect struck the victim with a skateboard, causing injuries to his head area. The outstanding suspect was described as a Hispanic or Asian male, 20 to 25 years old, short black hair and a thin trimmed mustache. There were no further details provided.
Riddle and Cervantes were later booked at the Southwest Detention Center for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
