On Friday August 14, 2009 the Murrieta Police Department conducted a combination sobriety/driver's license checkpoint in the City of Murrieta. The checkpoint was set up to screen traffic eastbound Clinton Keith Road east of West Murrieta Oaks Road.
The checkpoint was funded by a traffic safety grant the City of Murrieta was awarded by the State of California, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, Office of Traffic Safety (O.T.S.).
The checkpoint began operations at 7:15 p.m. and ended at 1:15 am. A total of 1,781 vehicles drove through the checkpoint, and of these vehicles 560 were screened. Twenty-seven of the drivers screened were pulled into a secondary area.
Twelve drivers were arrested for a variety of charges; including driving on a suspended license/unlicensed driver, driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, felony possession of a dangerous weapons and possession of marijuana. A total of six drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of fourteen vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint due to the driver driving on a suspended license, being arrested or not having a valid license in the DMV system. |
