On Friday September 4, 2009 the Murrieta Police Department conducted a combination sobriety/driver's license checkpoint in the City of Murrieta. The checkpoint was set up to screen traffic eastbound on Clinton Keith Road east of Murrieta Oaks West.
The checkpoint was funded by a traffic safety grant the City of Murrieta was awarded by the State of California, Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, Office of Traffic Safety (O.T.S.).
The checkpoint began operations at 7:15 p.m. and ended at 1:20 am. A total of 1,592 vehicles drove through the checkpoint, and of these vehicles 840 were screened. Forty-three of the drivers screened were pulled into a secondary area.
Fifteen drivers were arrested for a variety of charges; including driving on a suspended license, unlicensed driver, minor in possession of alcohol and felony and misdemeanor warrants. A total of thirteen vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint due to the driver having a suspended license or not having a valid license in the DMV system. |
