On Friday October 16, 2009 the Murrieta Police Department conducted a combination sobriety/driver's license checkpoint in the City of Murrieta. The checkpoint was set up to screen traffic eastbound Clinton Keith Road east of Murrieta Oaks West.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The checkpoint began operations at 7:15 p.m. and ended at 1:00 am. A total of 1,673 vehicles drove through the checkpoint, and of these vehicles 770 were screened. Twenty-nine of the drivers screened were pulled into a secondary area.
Eleven drivers were arrested for a variety of charges; including driving on a suspended license, unlicensed driver, D.U.I. alcohol and drugs, possession of Marijuana and misdemeanor warrants. A total of ten vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint due to the driver having a suspended license, not having a valid license in the DMV system or being arrested. |
