Nomination period for City Council now open

NOMINATION PERIOD OPENS FOR MURRIETA CITY COUNCIL NOVEMBER 4, 2008 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION

 

(Murrieta, CA) – Murrieta City Clerk Kay Vinson announced the nomination period for City Council candidates opens Monday, July 14 and closes Friday, August 8, 2008.  If an incumbent does not file by August 8th, the nomination period is extended for non-incumbents until Wednesday, August 13.

 

There are two City Council seats open for election on November 4, 2008 to four-year terms. To be eligible as a potential candidate, you must be a registered voter in Murrieta. All seats in Murrieta are “at-large” and are non-partisan.

 

By the August 8th deadline, several documents are required to be filed. They include nomination by at least 20 (maximum of 30) registered voters in Murrieta, determination of candidate’s statement, deposit of $1,050 if candidate’s statement is desired, ballot designation worksheet, statement of economic interest, acceptance or rejection of voluntary campaign expenditure limit, and potential campaign finance disclosure forms.

 

Nomination documents may be obtained from the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 1 Town Square, 24601 Jefferson Ave. in Murrieta between 8:00 a.m. - noon and 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Please call 461-6035 for an appointment and allow an hour to review the handbook.
